A team at Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance are celebrating after being highly commended for their work with patients in a prestigious national award.

The Health Inequalities and Patient Experience (HIPE) team were runners-up in the Eric Watts Award for excellence in patient care and patient engagement.

The award was presented to Patient Experience and Health Inequalities Programme Manager Jo Trask and Patient Engagement Officer Jenny Brazier, on behalf of the team which also includes Ellie Gunner-Taylor, Health Inequalities and Patient Experience Officer, and Patient Engagement Officer Charlotte Joshua.

It was awarded for the team’s work with CMCA’s Readers Panel, a diverse group of patient representatives who review public-facing documents produced by the Cancer Alliance to ensure they are clear and easy to understand. The HIPE team ensures that CMCA project teams always consider the patient voice, which is representative of our local population, within their work.

The award was presented at the Royal College of Physicians Med24 conference and the RCP said: “The assessment panel felt that your application was of a very high standard, and though they have decided to award the first-place prize to a different project, they would like to commend your team in an official capacity as runners-up.”
