A smoker who has quit cigarettes after 40 years is using the NHS Stoptober awareness campaign to urge others to give up the unhealthy habit.

Allan Berry, 66, has not smoked for six months thanks to the support of the CURE programme – funded by CMCA.

The CURE team at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offered Allan advice, support and treatments to help him quit.

The retired chef from Whiston said: “It’s a massive achievement, and I couldn’t have done it without all the support I’ve had. I’m not 100% there yet – but I’m 90% and I am so much better for it.”
