A healthcare professional from Wirral has been given a national award for her work with cancer patients.
Emma James, from Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has been awarded a Royal College of Nursing Foundation LV= Impact Award for an outstanding contribution to health and social care by a Healthcare Support Worker.
Last year, Emma received a grant from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), which allowed her to study the CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies to enhance the care that she can give to her cancer patients.
On completing the course, Emma – a colorectal cancer care coordinator – submitted a report to the RCN detailing how she used the grant, what she learned, and how she has applied these new skills in her role.
Emma’s counselling skills have greatly improved the psychological support she provides to cancer patients during supportive phone calls and Holistic Needs Assessments. She has also shared some of these skills with her team, further enhancing the service provided to patients.
The RCN trustees recognised Emma’s contributions and selected her for this prestigious award based on the positive impact she has made.
The award organisers said: “The annual RCN Foundation Impact Awards recognise excellence in nursing and midwifery and honour the passion, resilience and dedication that define these professions. They are a celebration of the outstanding work of nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers that takes place every day across the UK.”
