After its huge success last year, a roadshow of science, media and art delivering information about the importance of breast screening is back.
Hundreds of people attended the BeBreastSavvy events across north Liverpool, where communities were given information about why breast checks are vital to health. Women and men can develop breast cancer and the BeBreastSavvy roadshows will be visiting 10 new venues, mainly in north Liverpool over the coming months.
The events will give information about breast screening and will even rebook you a test if you have missed your last mammogram appointment. The BNENC, based in the heart of the Breckfield and North Everton Community, can also organise transport to have the test at Broadgreen Hospital. There will be talks on how to check your breasts and staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
The roadshow team also promises fun at the community events, with Boob Bingo and sew your own boob pin cushion or bradazzle a bra. You can also watch Liverpool TV actor Eithne Brown on the screen, reciting a poem on what to expect at your breast screening appointment.
Nicky Murphy, Care Coordinator at Anfield and Everton Primary Care Network, which is organising the roadshows, said: “It’s free, it’s local and breast cancer is Liverpool’s biggest cancer, so come along and bring your mum, your sister, your mates and your Nan. Let’s change that statistic!”
Eluned Hughes, Campaigns Development Manager at Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance, which is helping to fund the events, said: “These roadshows were incredibly popular last year, encouraging women across Liverpool not to ignore their mammogram appointments and putting across cancer awareness information in a fun and accessible way. We are looking forward to another series of brilliant events so that more people can BeBreastSavvy.”
The first event will take place on Wednesday June 19th from 10am to 3pm at The Liverpool Lighthouse, on Oakfield Road, L4 OUF.
