Seven-year-old Allya, from Crewe

A seven-year-old girl who is the first child with Down's syndrome to take part in a "revolutionary" clinical trial has rung the bell after completing her treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia at Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool.

Allya, from Crewe, in Cheshire, was diagnosed with the rare type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow shortly before her fourth birthday.

She has been undergoing the treatment as part of a clinical trial at the Merseyside children's hospital, which has been looking at a more targeted approach for children who are vulnerable to infections.
