People across Cheshire and Merseyside can have their say about cancer services, support and care at a series of Engagement Drop Ins in hospital reception areas this June and July.
Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA) will be meeting patients, the public and NHS staff at pop-up events throughout the region, asking people about their experiences of cancer, so that they can influence how services and care are designed and delivered in the future.
People will also be asked if they want to become involved with the Alliance as a patient or carer representative. They will help CMCA improve cancer services and care by becoming involved in one or more of the many opportunities available that champion the views of patients and carers.
The Drop Ins will take place in hospital reception areas across the region throughout June and July.
Jo Trask, CMCA Health Inequalities and Patient Experience Lead, said: “We’re inviting patients, carers and NHS staff to take part in a drop‑in session focused on improving cancer services. This new concept will make it easier for people to speak to us while they are already in a hospital setting, whether they are attending an appointment, visiting someone or passing through reception.
“We want to hear honest feedback about people’s experiences of cancer services and support, and about what could make that experience better for patients and families across Cheshire and Merseyside.
“By talking to people directly in hospitals, we hope to reach a wide range of voices and encourage more patients, carers and loved ones to help shape future cancer care in our region.
“We will also be able to give staff information about training and support that can help them with their cancer caring role.”
The Drop Ins will offer advice and information on cancer services and can direct people to further support. Staff can find out about The 123 Approach health inequalities training programme; the Health Inequalities Staff Network; and learning opportunities through The Cancer Academy. Patients, carers and the public can share their experiences of cancer and their feedback can help improve services for others.
Jo added: “If you have been affected by cancer in any way, we would really like to hear from you. Every conversation helps us better understand what people need from services now and in the future.”
