The message of the campaign is that HPV is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections – and men can get HPV too.

It highlights that gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) can get the HPV vaccine up to and including the age of 45. Some trans and non-binary people can also get the vaccine up to the age of 45.

While many cases of HPV infection do not cause problems, some types of HPV can lead to cancer.

For GBMSM populations, improving awareness and uptake is an important opportunity to reduce preventable cancer risk, improve health equity and strengthen engagement with trusted sexual health services.

CMCA’s campaigns team linked up with Hitch Marketing, a Wirral social marketing and behaviour change agency, which created the ‘Men Get It’ message, which will be used across digital and printed material for the campaign.

Eluned Hughes, Campaigns Development Manager at CMCA, said: “We are really pleased with this inclusive and impactful campaign targeting a group of communities that have been traditionally overlooked in many healthcare campaigns targeting vaccinations and cancer.

“The HPV vaccine can protect against a number of cancers including anal, penile and head and neck cancers so we hope men will take up the opportunity and book a HPV vaccination.”
