Carers with a long-term health condition who look after a cancer patient informally are being asked to help a Clatterbridge research project.
This study, run at Clatterbridge in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University, is exploring the views and experiences of informal carers – such as a family member or friend – who have one or more long-term health conditions and provide support to a person with cancer.
People participating in the study – called ‘How is help to a person with cancer managed, when the person providing support has a pre-existing health condition/s?’ – will be invited to take part in up to three interviews with a researcher over a period of eight months.
Clatterbridge’s Dr Lynda Appleton, a Senior Researcher who is leading the study, said: “The main aim is to understand how informal carers manage their health and well-being when caring for a person with cancer.
“We are interested in the coping strategies and support systems used by informal carers on a day-to-day basis, and what, if anything, can be done to better support individuals. The findings from the study will help us to better support informal carers in their role.”
