CMCA’s Senior Responsible Officer Dr Liz Bishop chaired a private roundtable discussion on how to drive further action on breast cancer – in particular, addressing health inequalities.

Dr Bishop is CEO of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in addition to her role at the Alliance, and reducing inequality in access to cancer services is a high priority for CMCA.

The session, hosted by Novartis UK and Public Policy Projects, focused on the need for partners across healthcare to work together to tackle health inequalities, recognising the importance of inclusive clinical trials and equitable access to diagnostics and treatment. Using data and listening to community groups, particularly those with traditionally poor outcomes in breast cancer, is crucial in this – an approach already being followed at CMCA.

The roundtable also featured Fiona Bride from Novartis UK, Dr Amish Acharya from Imperial College London, and Rachel Cashman, an expert in psychological safety, who all shared insights on the impact of health inequalities in breast cancer and some tangible examples of how teams are working locally to address them.
