The BBC has focussed on the work of the metastatic breast cancer team at Liverpool’s Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

In news reports across the channel, reporters interviewed clinicians and patients to highlight the experience of those dealing with secondary cancer, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Secondary breast cancer is when the cancer has already spread to other parts of the body. The condition featured in news headlines last month after the death of the singer Sarah Harding.

The films recorded at Clatterbridge were used alongside news of an announcement that for the first time, patients with secondary breast cancer in England and Wales are going to be counted in a special audit funded by the NHS.

Campaigners say this information will improve patient treatment and support.

The filming also highlighted the work of cancer clinicians, including an interview with the only male Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in the NHS, who works at the Liverpool hospital.
