Ruth_3.jpgA woman from Knowsley is warning women with strange symptoms to get medically checked after experiencing bloating in her tummy for a number of years.

Ruth Betteridge was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after suffering from bloating, which she initially wrote off as being something she would have to live with.

Ruth, from Huyton, was aged just 29 when she was told she had borderline stage 1A ovarian cancer in her left ovary.

She underwent a full hysterectomy in January 2016 and is now warning other people who may be experiencing unusual symptoms for three weeks or more, to contact their GP surgery.

Ruth, now 34, says: “I visited my GP with a bloated stomach. For months, I’d be watching what I ate in the hope of relieving the discomfort. But after all this time, I thought I might just have to live with it. Still, I visited my doctor who sent me for blood tests.”

The blood tests led to a cyst being discovered. Ruth said: “They warned me it might be something more sinister. Naturally, I was incredibly worried. When I had the hysterectomy, I didn’t even know at that point it was cancer, so it was an awful lot to get my head around.”
