inequality1.jpgCMCA has produced a range of resources for GPs, their practices and patients across Cheshire and Merseyside to help tackle inequality of access to primary care.

They have helpful advice on how to reduce inequalities for groups – those with learning and other disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, ethnically diverse communities, carers and those suffering deprivation –who traditionally have more difficulty in accessing health services than the general population.

The information includes how to create inclusive environments for these under-represented groups,  links to charities and training videos, easy read leaflets, reports and blogs.

Jo Trask, CMCA Macmillan Patient Experience and Health Inequalities Manager, said: “As part of the newly established Macmillan Health Inequality and Patient Experience team at CMCA, we are looking to support both our own project managers and health professionals across the region to better understand the impact of health inequality and how changes, big and small, can have huge impact on tackling this.

“The resources have been designed in response to a query from CMCA’s Primary Care Lead and South Sefton GP, Dr Debbie Harvey, who was looking for some ‘top tips’ to help health professionals consider health inequality at a practice level and tackle some of these challenges.

“It was apparent when developing these top tips, or support pages, that additional work was required to bring these resources together.

“The resource pages add an additional dimension, providing links to organisations that can offer support.

“With support, we hope that health professionals will feel confident to make some suggested changes and take a step forward in tackling health inequality in our region.”
