NHS Providers, the national body that represents NHS health and care providers, has featured Cheshire and Merseyside's community diagnostic centres (CDCs) in a new case study.

CDCs, which have been facilitated in part by the Cancer Alliance, offer people quicker, easier access to vital heath tests and scans, including for cancer, outside of busy acute hospitals.

The case study focusses on how Paddington CDC – based in Liverpool and one of the newest CDCs in the region – was established.

Paddington CDC opened in July 2023 and provides CT, MRI and ultrasound scans for patients referred by their GP for tests at hospitals across Cheshire and Merseyside.

Cheshire and Merseyside has been at the forefront of developing the new centres, with 10 across the region. The rollout has been a key priority for Cheshire and Merseyside Diagnostics Programme, which is part of a wider programme of work by Cheshire and Merseyside Acute and Specialist Trusts (CMAST), working with the Cancer Alliance.

CMCA’s Senior Responsible Officer (SRO), Liz Bishop, is also SRO for Cheshire and Merseyside Diagnostics Programme.
