A woman from Kirkby is warning people not to ignore the invitation to have their smear test after she was found to have cervical cancer.
Sophie Banawich went for a routine smear test when she was 25, which returned abnormal cells and eventually underwent a procedure to remove them. However, after a further test she was told cervical cancer had developed but the procedure has hopefully dealt with it.
She said: “Go for your cervical screening appointment, it doesn’t hurt. It’s a little embarrassing, but nothing that those doing the procedure have never seen before. It saved my life, and it could save yours.”
Sophie told her story during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and you can read it here: https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/mum-knew-something-wasnt-right-26064249
