A university professor being treated for prostate cancer is raising awareness of the mental impact of a cancer diagnosis.

Prof Robert Lee, 75, became depressed during cancer treatment and spoke of his experience to mark World Mental Health Day on Sunday.

He is urging people who find their mental or emotional wellbeing is suffering after a cancer diagnosis or treatment to seek professional assistance.

He said: “There is no need to be embarrassed by the mental health impact of any cancer. Proper advice can enable you to deal with some very difficult issues in a way that will hopefully improve your prognosis.”
