An awareness campaign from Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance has won a national award – to add to two other trophies last month.
The Two Minutes of Chat and an Early Screening campaign won at the public sector communications Comms2point0 Unawards.
CMCA and its marketing agency partners on the campaign, Vivid Everywhere, won in the Best Work By An Agency category against communications teams from across the country.
The Two Minutes campaign featured actors Will Mellor and Ralf Little, stars of long-running sitcom Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. The BBC show was set in Halton, where the campaign ran in early summer 2025. Will and Ralf featured in videos talking to local people about cancer screening and reducing the fear of the disease.
The campaign had distinctive branding, outdoor advertising, social media presence and support from local community groups across the borough, with the message being seen by 58% of people in Halton, and an estimated 13 to 25% of people gained increased knowledge of what is involved with the NHS cancer screening programmes.
The campaign also picked up two marketing awards in the Prolific North awards recently.
CMCA’s Communications Manager Paul Ogden said: “We were overjoyed to win another award for this campaign that many colleagues across the Cancer Alliance contributed to.
“We were up against public sector communications teams from across the country and it was fantastic that this pioneering campaign has been recognised in this way.
“CMCA’s campaigns team, led by Campaigns Manager Eluned Hughes, worked brilliantly with Vivid Everywhere to produce a really successful, imaginative and ground-breaking messaging, using local people to deliver it in an entertaining way that our communities engaged with.”
There are plans to run the campaign again in other areas of Cheshire and Merseyside in 2026.
