People on the Isle of Man can give their views on cancer services, treatment and care when an NHS organisation tours the island.

Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA) will be meeting the public at pop-up events across the island, asking people about their experiences of cancer so that they can influence how services and care are designed and delivered in the future.

People also have the chance to sign up to be involved with the Cancer Alliance as a patient or carer representative to help shape cancer services and support or help to raise awareness of the disease in the local area and beyond.

CMCA brings together healthcare professionals, community organisations, patients and others affected by cancer to drive improvements in clinical outcomes and patients’ experience of the care and treatment they receive.

The Roadshow will also engage staff who work in cancer treatment and care on the Isle of Man. CMCA’s education and training hub for cancer professionals, The Cancer Academy, is also joining the tour and can give information on the workforce platform, a website with resources which is free of charge to use.

The Roadshow is led by Jo Trask, CMCA’s Health Inequalities and Patient Experience Lead, who said: “We want to hear the views of local people about cancer services and listen to their experiences of their support and care.

“We design cancer services across the Cheshire and Merseyside region – and the Isle of Man – and we want local people to have more say in how these services are designed and delivered.

“We also want people from the island to become patient representatives so we can call on their expertise of living through cancer in a number of situations. We have around 40 patient representatives but want to sign up many more.”

Lucy Irwin, Workforce Project Manager at The Cancer Academy, said: “We are really looking forward to visiting the Isle of Man to meet our amazing cancer workforce on the island.

“We want to share with them what we currently offer on The Cancer Academy, a variety of educational resources that will allow individuals to tailor their training needs to their role and ultimately enhance patient experience and the support they provide to patients and their families at each stage of their cancer journey.”

Manx Care, the Isle of Man’s integrated health and care service, works very closely with the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside to deliver specialist cancer services for the island’s population.

Teresa Cope, Chief Executive of Manx Care, said: “I would encourage both colleagues and members of the public to drop in and see the team if they can – it’s key that we hear your voices when shaping the design and delivery of future services.”
